Hi! I’m Leah.
I am a working mom of four who has called Kyle home for seven years. My husband and I chose Kyle because it offers the best of both worlds - it’s close to larger cities, but offers a quieter pace and the closer-knit community we wanted our kids to grow up in. We fell in love with the tree-lined streets and neighborly feel of the Plum Creek area, the charming historic downtown, and the local festivals, and saw the potential for Kyle to grow into a vibrant city without losing the sense of community that makes it special.
Today, I am proud to raise my family in the kind of community I remember from my own childhood in Colorado: neighbors who gather for holidays, lend a hand when someone needs it, and look out for one another's kids. You can often find me walking our dog at Heroes Memorial Park, reading or gardening in my backyard, or grabbing Aviator Pizza or an ice cream at La Ola with my family.
I believe Kyle's rapid growth presents both tremendous opportunity and an important responsibility: to build a city where families can move safely and easily, local businesses can thrive, neighbors have places to gather, and growth enhances rather than erodes our quality of life. I’m running for City Council because I want my children, and every family in Kyle, to grow up in a community filled with this strong sense of identity and purpose - one that they are proud to call home.

For more than 15 years, Leah has built a career in nonprofits and health policy bringing people together to solve complex problems and improve people's lives. As a Vice President of Public Policy, she has worked with legislators, governors' offices, regulators, businesses, advocates, and community leaders across the country, helping write legislation, build coalitions, manage budgets and teams, and turn good ideas into practical solutions.
Her career has taught her that good leadership starts with listening, understanding the facts, bringing people with different perspectives to the table, and finding common ground. That's the experience and approach Leah will bring to Kyle City Council.
Community Building & Volunteering
Leah believes strong communities don't happen by accident. They're built when people show up for one another. During the pandemic, when families were isolated and kids were missing the chance to simply be kids together, Leah started a family nature club to give local families a safe way to get outside, explore, and stay connected.
For the past three years, she has also organized The Big Book Give, an annual community book drive supporting childhood literacy and putting thousands of books into the hands of children who need them. That work is personal to Leah. Growing up, her family didn't have a lot, but she had access to well-stocked libraries, beautiful parks and trails, and a community where people looked out for one another. Those experiences helped give her opportunities that every child deserves, and today, she feels fortunate to be able to give back to the kinds of causes that gave her such a strong start in life.
Closer to home, Leah serves on her neighborhood social committee, has led a thriving book club for the past three years, volunteers with local nonprofits, and is usually looking for another excuse to bring people together. Whether it's a neighborhood gathering, a pile of donated books, or families exploring a trail together, she believes relationships are what turn a collection of houses into a community.
Her philosophy is simple: If you want a village, be the village.
That's also at the heart of the kind of Kyle she wants to help build, a city designed not only for people to live in, but for people to belong to.
family
Leah is a wife and mother of four. She enjoys yoga, swimming, reading and hiking. Her husband of 18 years is a local firefighter. Their oldest son is currently attending medical school in Cincinnati, and their daughter, an avid artist, who spent her high school years on the Hays debate team, is heading to college this fall to study art history.
Leah and her husband also have two teenage boys at home. One grew up playing Hays Youth Baseball and loves fishing with friends in Kyle. The other is a Boy Scout who plays piano and enjoys robotics. Their family has a dog named Oliver Twist, who they adopted from PAWS several years ago.
As a family, they love hiking and being outdoors, traveling and exploring new places, and spending time together at home. Leah especially loves discovering the history, food, neighborhoods and local traditions that give different places their character. At home, a good family game night is a favorite, especially when it involves a few competitive rounds of Spades.
